Yarn & hooks

Crochet and amigurumi animals

One hook, one yarn, one very small panda.

Crochet only ever needs two things: a hook and a piece of yarn. Everything else — bags, bucket hats, placemats, scarves and an entire menagerie of amigurumi animals — is the same handful of stitches repeated with confidence. It is the most portable craft we sell and the one most likely to become a habit.

Chain, single, double — that is the alphabet

Almost every pattern is built from a chain, a single crochet and a double crochet. Learn to hold tension evenly and the rest is repetition.

Match the hook to the yarn (the band tells you which), and crochet a small square first to check your tension before you commit to a bag.

Creativity in a Box — starter crochet

Yarn, hook, pattern and instructions in one box. Made to be finished, not abandoned.

Crocheted amigurumi animals in soft pastel yarn
Worked in a tight spiral so no stuffing shows through — that is the whole amigurumi trick.

Little creatures, worked in the round

Amigurumi is crocheted in a continuous spiral rather than joined rounds, with a hook one size smaller than the yarn suggests. The tight fabric is deliberate: it keeps the stuffing invisible.

Each animal is a couple of evenings. They are also the fastest handmade gift we know for a child's birthday.

A whole menagerie

Crochet you can carry and wear

Chunky bags, bucket hats and scarves — the pieces that get complimented on the street.

Mini kits for hearts, snowflakes, placemats and dog accessories — under an evening each.

Which hook size do I need?

Follow the yarn band. For amigurumi, drop one size smaller so the stitches stay tight and the stuffing does not show.

Is crochet or knitting easier to learn?

Crochet, for most people — there is only one live stitch at a time, so a mistake means pulling back a few stitches, not a whole row.

How much yarn does an amigurumi animal take?

Less than you think — our kits include exactly what the pattern needs, plus the eyes and stuffing.
